OBÀTÁLÁ

Obatala is King of the White Light, usually translated as King of

the White Cloth.  In Merindinlogun Obatala speaks in Ogbe (8 cowries), Ofun (10 cowries) and Ofun Kanran (15 cowries.)  Obatala´s color is white and Obatala will eat white foods like rice, pounded yam, shea butter, milk, coconut water, and water as offerings.  Obatala is considered the guardian of good character and sons and daughters of Obatala serve as judges in traditional Yoruba Ogboni.

 

 

ORÍKÌ OBÀTÁLÁ

(Praising the King of White Cloth)

 

Iba Obatala,  Iba Oba Igbo,  Iba Oba,  N'le ifon,  O fi koko ala rumo.

Praise to the King of the White Cloth, Praise to the King of the sacred grove, Praise to the King of Heaven, I salute the Owner of White Cloth.

Òrìsà ni ma sin.  Òrìsà ni ma sin.  Òrìsà ni ma sin.

It is the Owner of White Light that I serve.  It is the Owner of White      Light that I serve.  It is the Owner of White Light that I serve.

Obatala o su n'nu àlà.  Obatala o ji n'nu àlà.  Obatala o tinu ala dide.

King of the White Cloth sleeps in white. King of the White Cloth awakes in white.  King of the White Cloth gets up in white.

A-di-ni boit ri, Mo juba.  Ase.

He who creates at will, I give respect.  May it be so.

 

 OFO ASE

OBÀTÁLÁ

(Praise names for the King of the White Cloth)

 

Obàtálá, Obàtarisà, Oba pátápátá tíí b´won Òde Irànjé.

King of the White Cloth, King of the Immortals, the fierce King of the Immortals, who lives with them in Irange.

Òrisàálá Ògirigbànigbò, aláyè tí wón nfi ayé fun.

Spirit of White Light, the Great One Who Owns the World and to whom the control of the world must be assigned.

Òbòmo - bòrò - kalè.

        One who peels off the skin of people.

Ayinmo - niké,  adá - won - láro.

One who twists the hunchback and also creates those who are lame.

 

ORIN OBÀTÁLÁ

 

  1.   Call;  Babafururu o rere re o, owo ka ne ne eleyibo,

        E le eri Ifa Oba ti b sawo, eyibo rere,

        Oba ti ba o, enu aye yawa roro.
