The traditional Ifa/Orisa funeral involes saying Oriki invocation to insure a proper transition from this life to the next. The body is washed, painted with sacred symbols and prayers related to the shift in consciousness that occurs during the transition from aye (earth) to Orun (Heaven). During the ritual there is a grieving process followed by communication with the deceased through the voice of Egungun (ancestral mediums.) Divination is done to determine if there is spiritual obligations left from the life of the deceased that need to be fulfilled by members of the community.
