Exams are an inevitable part of a student life. Many students hate and dread exams because of the harrowing experience of preparing for them. This does not have to be the case if you prepare for exams well and thoroughly. In this article, we are going to discuss tips for studying for your exams.
1. Find out about the exam.
They say you should know your enemy well, so it is important to find out as much as you can about the exam you are about to undertake. What type of the exam is it? That is, is it a multiple choice, open book, essay or a takeaway exam? How much will the exam carry on the overall mark on the subject? These are some of the questions you need to know the answers to so as to be able to study and prepare for the exam adequately.
2. Revise past paper exams.
You need to go through the previous tests that were done before. This is to enable you to familiarize yourself with the structure and format of the exam. It will also provide you with a hindsight of any possible trend in the questions that are set for that particular subject.
3. Sort out your subject material.
It is very important to have all the relevant material for each subject you need to prepare for. Therefore, ensure that you have all the notes, handouts and any other revision material you require to prepare for the exam. A course outline or subject guide will enable you to organize the information and be able to study without fear of leaving out a particular area.
4. Prioritize the tests that matter most.
It is not wise to consider all your exams as equal especially if there are subjects you do better than others. You need to know what subject you are strong and weak in. Allocate time as per your performance and concentrate more on the ones you are weak. This does not mean you ignore the rest, but it is a way of ensuring you are prepared adequately for each subject and confident enough to tackle all subjects.
5. Take snack breaks.
You need to give your body and brain a break in between the studying. This is because when you study, the brain consumes glucose. Take short breaks to let your body produce more glucose so that you don’t feel tired. A healthy snack and a walk can do magic to your body by rejuvenating it. This will improve your studying.
6. Get enough rest and relax.
Sleep will be very important as it will provide you with a rest and energy you will need during your studying for your exams. The body will also be relaxed and thus you be able to focus more. This will make you ready to study and sit for your exams without any doubts.
